Dans Le Photomaton, Emilia Pesty met en scène un univers imprégné
de nostalgie, dans lequel la dichotomie de la composition fait échoà ses deux identités culturelles.
Le rideau bleuté, à moitié fermé, dévoile une scène intime où les jambes croisées des personnages contrastent avec les multiples références culturelles disséminées sur le mur. Entre la Lotería Mexicana et le masque de lucha libre, l’œuvre explore l’imaginaire populaire mexicain, tissant un lien entre mémoire collective et identité à travers des symboles forts.
Le photomaton occupe une place centrale dans la composition, tant visuellement que symboliquement. Cet objet devient un témoin de moments partagés, de rencontres éphémères et d’instants capturés, que l’artiste cherche à sublimer pour offrir une réflexion plus profonde sur la construction

In Le Photomaton, Emilia Pesty stages a world imbued with nostalgia, where
the dichotomy of the composition echoes her dual cultural identity. The bluish, half-drawn curtain reveals an intimate scene in which the characters’ crossed legs contrast with
the many cultural references scattered across the wall. Between La Lotería Mexicana
and the lucha libremask, the work explores Mexican popular imagination, weaving
a connection between collective memory and identity through powerful symbols.
The photo booth occupies a central place in the composition, both visually
and symbolically. This object becomes a witness to shared moments, fleeting encounters, and captured instants — elements that the artist seeks to elevate, offering a deeper reflection on the construction of identity.
